  • Manusia yang diciptakan Tuhan diberikan ujian penurutan untuk mengungkapkan iman dan kasih mereka kepada Pencipta mereka
  • Karna mereka diberikan kebebasan untuk memilih, yang baik atau yang jahat, pilihan mereka akan mengungkapkan iman mereka kepada Tuhan

Adam was then created in the image of God and placed upon PROBATION. He had a perfectly developed organism… After God had made every provision for the happiness of man, and had supplied his every want, he tested Adam’s loyalty. If the holy pair should be obedient, the race would after a time be made equal to the angels. Review and Herald, Feb. 24, 1874, par. 26

Our first parents, though created innocent and holy, were not placed beyond the possibility of wrongdoing. God made them free moral agents, capable of appreciating the wisdom and benevolence of His character and the justice of His requirements, and with full liberty to yield or to withhold obedience. They were to enjoy communion with God and with holy angels; but before they could be rendered eternally secure, their loyalty must be tested… The tree of knowledge, which stood near the tree of life in the midst of the garden, was to be a test of the obedience, faith, and love of our parents… They were also to be exposed to the temptations of Satan; but if they endured the trial, they would finally be placed beyond his power, to enjoy perpetual favor with God. Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 48, par. 4

God placed man under law, as an indispensable condition of his very existence. He was a subject of the divine government, and there can be no government without law. God might have created man without the power to transgress His law; He might have withheld the hand of Adam from touching the forbidden fruit; but in that case man would have been, not a free moral agent, but a mere automaton. Without freedom of choice, his obedience would not have been voluntary, but forced. There could have been no development of character. Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 49, par. 1

  • Tetapi jikalau mereka tidak setia dan memilih yang bertentangan dengan perintah-Nya, mereka harus mati, karna mereka tolak kehidupan yang hanya dapat dipertahankan melalui penurutan mereka kepada firman Tuhan

THE FALL

Gen 3:4  And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall NOT surely die

  • Tuhan mengatakan bahwa mereka sesungguhnya akan mati jika mereka makan buah itu, namun Setan katakan bahwa yang Tuhan katakan itu tidak benar.
  • Ujian ini akan mengungkapkan iman mereka kepada Tuhan, atau tidak

Gen 3:6  And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. .

ADAM AND EVE TRANSGRESSED THE LAW OF GOD

1Jn 3:4  Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law

Eze 18:20  The soul that sinneth, it shall die.

Gen 3:4  And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall NOT surely die

Rom 6:23  For the wages of sin is death;

  • Adam dan Hawa telah melanggar perintah Tuhan, dan upah pelanggaran mereka adalah kematian kekal
  • Setan mengatakan bahwa mereka setelah berdosa harus mati, dan Tuhan tidak bisa mengampuni dosa mereka, karna Tuhan itu “just”
  • Kalau mereka diampuni, artinya Tuhan tidak “just”, katanya Setan.
  • Setan katakan, bahwa Tuhan tidak bisa berkemurahan sementara “just”

In the opening of the great controversy, Satan had declared that the law of God could not be obeyed, that justice was inconsistent with mercy, and that, should the law be broken, it would be impossible for the sinner to be pardoned. Every sin must meet its punishment (judgment), urged Satan; and if God should remit the punishment of sin, He would not be a God of truth and justice. When men broke the law of God, and defied His will, Satan exulted. It was proved, he declared, that the law could not be obeyed; man could not be forgiven. Because he, after his rebellion, had been banished from heaven, Satan claimed that the human race must be forever shut out from God’s favor. God could not be just, he urged, and yet show mercy to the sinner. Desire of Ages, p. 761, par. 4 

  • Walaupun Tuhan “just”, dan manusia yang telah berdosa patut mati, namun Tuhan juga berkemurahan (mercy) siap untuk mengampuni dosa mereka jikalau mereka mengakui dosa mereka, dan tidak mau untuk melanggar lagi, dengan pertolongan Tuhan

Jas 2:13  For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.

  • Walaupun Tuhan “just” dan akan menjalankan penghakiman-Nya, namun bagi manusia berdosa, dia lebih menginginkan untuk memberikan “mercy” nya kepada mereka

The more we see that justice has been sustained in the sacrifice (justice) that met the penalty of the law (the cross), and that mercy has been provided in the only begotten Son, who bore the penalty of the law in the sinner’s place, in order that man might have ANOTHER PROBATION, another opportunity to be OBEDIENT to the law of God’s government. Review and Herald, March 9, 1897, par. 5

THE JUSTICE AND THE MERCY OF GOD

Joh 1:29  The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world

Rev 13:8  And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain FROM the foundation of the world.

Disaat manusia berdosa, langsung pada saat itu juga ada Juruselamat dari dosa

  • Rencana keselamatan bukan hanya terdiri dari dosa manusia diampuni, tetapi agar mereka tidak berdosa lagi 
  • Dan ini terjadinya dengan hak memilih manusia yang utuh, bukan paksaan Tuhan terhadap manusia yang diselamatkan-Nya
  • Dengan hak memilih, mereka memilih untuk melanggar, dan dengan hak memilih yang utuh, manusia pun dapat memilih untuk menurut

As soon as there was sin, there was a Saviour. Christ knew what He would have to suffer, yet He became man’s substitute. As soon as Adam sinned, the Son of God presented himself as surety for the human race, with just as much power to avert the doom pronounced upon the guilty as when He died upon the cross of Calvary. Review and Herald, March 12, 1901, par. 4

  • Disaat manusia berdosa, langsung ada Juruselamat mereka
  • Juruselamat menyelamatkan mereka dari dosa mereka (bukan didalam dosa)
  • Walaupun Kristus membayar hutang dosanya dikayu salib, 4000 tahun kemudian, kuasanya disaat Adam and Hawa berdosa sudah ada untuk menyelamatkan orang berdosa dari dosa-dosa mereka
Mat 1:21  And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people FROM their sins.

ANOTHER PROBATION GRANTED

Joh 3:16  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 

  • Kasih Bapa adalah pengungkapan hukum-Nya, yang adalah “justice” dan “mercy”, atau keadilan hukum, dimana dosa menuntut kehidupannya, dan mercy memberikan pengampunan dosa
  • Dengan mengirim Anak-Nya, Bapa memenuhi tuntutan hukum yang adalah kematian (justice), dimana Anak-Nya sendiri yang mati menggantikan kematian manusia berdosa, agar Bapa memberikan “mercy” Nya kepada siapa saya yang percaya
  • Percaya itu diungkapkan dalam penurutan mereka
  • Inilah fungsi masa probation manusia di bumi ini

God has elected that man should have a second trial, a second probation, a second test as to whether he will keep the commandments of God, or walk in the path of transgression, as did Adam. Should God save men in disobedience, after granting them a second probation, putting them to the test in this life, they would fail to regard his authority in the future life. Those who are disloyal to Christ in this world would be disloyal to him in the world to come, and would create a second rebellion in heaven. Men have the history of Adam’s disobedience and fall before them, and because of this they should be warned against venturing to transgress the law of God. Jesus Christ has died in order that all men may have a chance to make their calling and election sure; but the standard of righteousness in this gospel age is no less than it was in the days of Adam, and heaven will be the reward of obedience. Review and Herald September 28, 1897, par. 4

By infinite love and mercy a life of probation was granted. To restore in men and women the image of their Maker, to bring them back to the perfection in which they were created—this was to be the work of redemption. This is the object of education, the great object of life. True Education, p. 10, par. 4

Mat 6:31  Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed
Mat 6:32  (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things (eat, drink, and clothing). 
Mat 6:33  But SEEK ye FIRST the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. 

  • Didalam masa kesempatan kedua (probation) ini, yang terpenting ialah untuk menurut firman Tuhan
  • Makanan, minuman, dan pakaian penting, namun tidak sepenting penurutan akan firman Tuhan
  • Probation ini diberikan untuk menurut, karna Adam dan Hawa melanggar di taman Eden (dengan makan buah yang dilarang untuk dimakan)
Mat 6:25  Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
 
  • Seseorang tidak akan kehilangan kehidupan kekalnya karna dia lapar, haus, dan tidak berpakaian
  • Dia akan hilang karna tidak menurut firman Tuhan

He was in the wilderness in obedience to God, and He would not obtain food by following the suggestions of Satan. In the presence of the witnessing universe, He testified that it is a less calamity to suffer whatever may befall than to depart in any manner from the will of God. Desire of Ages, p. 121, par. 1

  • Yang membuat seseorang untuk hidup adalah firman roh nafas Tuhan
  • Adam menjadi mahluk yang hidup karna nafas kehidupan Penciptanya, bukan makanan dan minuman
  • Memang manusia perlu makan dan minum untuk mempertahankan kehidupannya dimasa probationnya, namun kehidupan kekalnya dijanjikan bagi yang menurut akan firmanNya, bukan bagi orang yang tidak pernah kehausan dan kelaparan
  • Fungsi daripada probation ini bukan untuk makan dan minum; hal itu dibutuhkan untuk mencari terlebih dahulu kehidupan kekalnya dan untuk mempertahankannya
  • Didalam krisis, Kristus membuktikan kepada seluruh semesta alam, bahwa musibah terbesar ialah untuk tidak melakukan kehendak Bapa, dibandingkan dengan apapun konsekuensinya daripada penurutannya, kelaparan dan maut sekalipun
  • Akan banyak umat Tuhan yang dibangkitkan nanti karna mereka mati kelaparan dan kehausan demi mempertahankan penurutan mereka akan firman Tuhan

THE CLOSE OF PROBATION

Luk 13:25  When once the master of the house is RISEN UP, and hath SHUT to THE DOOR, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are: 

  • Disaat tuan rumah berdiri dan menutup pintu, dia yang masih berada diluar pintu akan untuk selama-lamanya berada diluar pintu.
  • Apa artinya untuk berdiri?
Mat 13:47  Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind: 
Mat 13:48  Which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and SAT DOWN, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away.
 
Mat 4:18  And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers
Mat 4:19  And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of MEN
 
  • Jala yang dilemparkan ke laut melambangkan injil; ikan-ikan dilaut melambangkan manusia yang perlu diselamatkan
  • Petrus dari seorang nelayan ikan, menjadi penginjil manusia

When the gospel net is cast, there should be a watching by the net, with tears and earnest prayers. Signs of the Times, Jan.28, 1886, Art. A, par. 5

  • Sementara mereka duduk, ikan yang baik dipisahkan dari ikan yang tidak baik
  • Pekerjaan memisahkan orang-orang yang baik dari  yang tidak baik adalah pekerjaan Kristus sementara probation manusia berlangsung
  • Disaat semua yang percaya sudah dipisahkan dari yang tidak percaya, maka berdirilah Kristus, dan menutup pintu probation manusia

Rev 3:7  And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth

 
HE THAT IS FOOLISH, LET HIM BE FOOLISH STILL

Rev 22:11  He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still

  • Dia yang dimasa probation ini yang masih kotor, akan dinyatakan kotor selama-lamanya
  • Dia yang dimasa probationnya bersih, akan dinyatakan bersih selama-lamanya
  • Disaat pintu kasihan tertutup, apakah saya berada didalam pintu atau diluar pintu
  • Masa probation ini diberikan untuk melakukan persiapan untuk saat seperti ini, dimana kesempatannya tidak pernah akan ada lagi disaat pintu sudah tertutup

The period of probation is the time granted to all to prepare for the day of God. If any neglect the preparation, and heed not the faithful warnings given, they will be without excuse… That faith which will live through THE TIME OF TROUBLE must be daily in exercise now. Those who do not make strong efforts now to exercise persevering faith, will be wholly unprepared to exercise that faith which will enable them to stand in the day of trouble. Spirit of Prophecy, vol. 1, p. 124, par. 1

Dan 12:1  And at that time shall Michael STAND UP, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a TIME OF TROUBLE, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. 

  • Iman yang dibutuhkan agar dapat berdiri (tidak jatuh) disaat krisis masa kesukaran Yakub, sudah harus dimiliki sebelum masa kesukaran itu
  • Masa probation ini diberikan untuk mempersiapkan iman kita agar dapat berdriri nanti

The “time of trouble, such as never was,” is soon to open upon us; and we shall need an experience which we do not now possess and which many are too indolent (lazy) to obtain. It is often the case that trouble is greater in anticipation than in reality; but this is not true of the crisis before us. The most vivid presentation cannot reach the magnitude of the ordeal. Great Controversy, p. 622, par. 4

  • Dunia ini  sudah mau memasuki masa kepicikan Yakub (Daniel 12:1; Matius 24:21)
  • Kita membutuhkan pengalaman yang kita belum miliki sekarang, dan terlalu malas untuk memperolehnya
  • Masa kesukaran ini jauh lebih parah dari yang pikiran manusia bisa imajinasikan didalam pikirannya

Now is the time to prepare. The seal of God will never be placed upon the forehead of an impure man or woman. It will never be placed upon the forehead of the ambitious, world-loving man or woman. It will never be placed upon the forehead of men or women of false tongues or deceitful hearts. All who receive the seal must be without spot before God—candidates for heaven. Go forward, my brethren and sisters. I can only write briefly upon these points at this time, merely calling your attention to the necessity of preparation. Search the Scriptures for yourselves, that you may understand the fearful solemnity of the present hour. Testimonies, vol. 5, p. 216, par. 1,2

  • Hanya mereka yang karakternya tidak ada satupun noda-lah yang akan sanggup berdiri pada masa kesukaran ini
  • Janganlah menyia-nyiakan masa probation ini, dengan melakukan hal-hal yang hanya memuaskan keinginan daging kita

Then I saw Jesus lay off His priestly attire and clothe Himself with His most kingly robes. Upon His head were many crowns, a crown within a crown. Surrounded by the angelic host, He left heaven. The plagues were falling upon the inhabitants of the earth. Some were denouncing God and cursing Him. Others rushed to the people of God and begged to be taught how they might escape His judgments. But the saints had nothing for them. The last tear for sinners had been shed, the last agonizing prayer offered, the last burden borne, the last warning given. The sweet voice of mercy was no more to invite them. When the saints, and all heaven, were interested for their salvation, they had no interest for themselves. Life and death had been set before them. Many desired life, but made no effort to obtain it. They did not choose life, and now there was no atoning blood to cleanse the guilty, no compassionate Saviour to plead for them, and cry, “Spare, spare the sinner a little longer.” All heaven had united with Jesus, as they heard the fearful words, “It is done. It is finished.” The plan of salvation had been accomplished, but few had chosen to accept it. And as mercy’s sweet voice died away, fear and horror seized the wicked. With terrible distinctness they heard the words, “Too late! too late!”

  • Pekerjaan keselamatan sudah selesai untuk selama-lamanya
  • Terdengan seruan dari segala arah yang mengatakan, sudah terlambat, sudah terlambat

Those who had not prized God’s Word were hurrying to and fro, wandering from sea to sea, and from the north to the east, to seek the Word of the Lord. Said the angel, “They shall not find it. There is a famine in the land; not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but for hearing the words of the Lord. What would they not give for one word of approval from God! but no, they must hunger and thirst on. Day after day have they slighted salvation, prizing earthly riches and earthly pleasure higher than any heavenly treasure or inducement. They have rejected Jesus and despised His saints. The filthy must remain filthy forever.”

  • Mereka sekarang mencari firman Tuhan, tetapi mereka tidak akan menemukannya lagi
  • Setiap hari mereka menganggap remeh akan kebenaran ini, sekarang mereka harus haus dan lapar akan kebenaran ini selama-lamanya

THE REPROACH

Many of the wicked were greatly enraged as they suffered the effects of the plagues. It was a scene of fearful agony. Parents were bitterly reproaching their children, and children their parents, brothers their sisters, and sisters their brothers. Loud, wailing cries were heard in every direction, “It was you who kept me from receiving the truth which would have saved me from this awful hour.” The people turned upon their ministers with bitter hate and reproached them, saying, “You have not warned us. You told us that all the world was to be converted, and cried, Peace, peace, to quiet every fear that was aroused. You have not told us of this hour; and those who warned us of it you declared to be fanatics and evil men, who would ruin us.” But I saw that the ministers did not escape the wrath of God. Their suffering was tenfold greater than that of their people. Early Writings, p. 281-2

  • Banyak orang akan sangat marah karna efek efek tulah ini
  • Orang tua terhadap anaknya, dan sebaliknya

Isa 55:6  Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: 
Isa 55:7  Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon

We are all to proclaim the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus. Jesus came to magnify the law, and make it honorable. He died to exalt the law of God, testifying of its changeless character; and as we proclaim God’s law, we may look unto Jesus and be comforted with the assurance, “Lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.” {RH January 24, 1893, par. 3}
